Creative Nonfiction FAQ
CREATIVE NONFICTION SUBMISSIONS
What is creative nonfiction?
Creative nonfiction can range from lyrical personal essays to more highly researched narrative journalism, but the genre’s defining feature is that it tells a true story.
Will my work be edited for grammatical or spelling errors?
It is our expectation that written submissions are free or nearly free of grammatical and spelling errors. Accepted works will be reviewed for fact-checking, plagiarism, previous publication, and correctness of citations and translations.
Are there submission guidelines for my written work?
Yes, submissions must be:
written in Times New Roman 12-point font
double-spaced
submitted as a Word or PDF document
between 500 and 4,000 words in length
My piece is based on true events, but I want to change the names of the individuals involved. Is that okay?
All accounts, events, and details in the work must be of a factual nature. Names of private individuals, however, may be changed for the sake of concealing the identities of those who wish to remain anonymous.
May I submit a written work in a language other than English?
Written works must be written primarily in English, although phrases in foreign languages are permitted as long as translations are provided in the form of footnotes.
