Whole Life / Goodbye

by Bassool

Sit back and pretend, like you’ve been here before

It’s all brand new

You’ve not met the end just open the door

It's up to you

So compromise yourself, open up your heart

Don’t be shy, be vulnerable, is alright

cuz time’s not on your side, and in the blink of an eye

you’ll be looking back on your whole life

Jumping off the ledge, such a jagged edge

Into the unknown

cut the sharpest bend, find a new best friend

Now you’re in the zone

So compromise yourself, open up your heart

Don’t be shy, be vulnerable, is alright

cuz time’s not on your side, and in the blink of an eye

you’ll be looking back on your whole life

I don't know where to go

I don’t know what to do

But I’m doing what feels right

Don’t wanna change for you

It's been a while now, and,

I’m finally on my own

We could've worked it out, but,

I think I’d rather, be alone

for now

So goodbye

my friend

I guess its only me

I've only got myself

I am my only friend, and

that time with you was hell

But somehow the tables turned

and now I’m the one who’s wrong

Life lived and lessons learned, it’s

a shame that we couldn’t get along

for now

So goodbye

my friend

So goodbye my friend

So goodbye my friend

About The Piece

I mainly just write about what I am currently going through over chord progressions that come to me naturally when I play my instrument. I wrote the main chord progression for WHOLE LIFE / GOODBYEon guitar while trying to implement two things I appreciated in songs that I heard before: using jazz chords that travel all over the neck of the guitar like on “Night and Day” by Everything but the Girl, and using the same chord for the entirety of the main riff like on Rex Orange County’s “Sunflower.” This song is mainly about a transition from cynicism and mistrust to optimism and keeping yourself open to all of what life has to offer, and identifying who or what made you so cynical in the first place. This two-parter pretty much wrote itself, as does most of my music in my head before I produce and mix it. This will be on my album coming soon, so stay tuned on social media!
